13 Jul Single Female Boomers May Be the New Target Market

Did you know that 28 million, that’s 37% of America’s 76 million baby boomers, are single females? According to the National Association of Realtors, single females account for one out of every five home purchases. This unique demographic is rapidly becoming the new target for age-restricted and active adult communities.

Leading active adult builder Del Webb surveyed this group in early 2015 and found them to be confident, focused on health and extremely self-supporting. 45% of single female boomers feel their best years are yet to come. An active, healthy lifestyle and time with friends and family are their top priorities. In fact, 76% responded that they feel younger than their age.

Half of this demographic is still in the workforce, to ensure they will be financially prepared for retirement. Building their savings is also high on the priority list. Naturally, the more time boomers spend planning, the more apt they are to be financially secure later in life.

Women have a longer life expectancy than men however, so as the boomer population ages, the number of female baby boomers that become “single” due to the death of their partner is also expected to rise.
