02 Dec Is Periscope for Brands, Too?

Since its launch last March, the Twitter-owned live streaming app Periscope has been downloaded 10 periscopemillion times.

The app acts as a real-time live stream and encourages live engagement through likes as well as typing questions that can be instantly viewed by the streamer.

This real time engagement provides brands new opportunities to interact with their audiences.

Digiday.com reports that a variety of brands from Coach to GE and Taco Bell have dabbled in the platform, some offering its fans exclusive, behind-the-scenes footage and some hosting question-and-answer sessions.

Brands are having success by offering coverage of exclusive live events, such as auto shows, fashion shows and more. Another successful use of Periscope is creating buzz around new product announcements.

Live Q&A sessions are also a great way for brands to get intimate and personal with their clients and customers.

One of the bonuses to the app is that it creates a sense of urgency for brands. Viewers tune in live to interact, and if they miss it the replay is only available for 24 hours.

Social media has set in motion a powerful consumer movement – they want transparency and they want personal attention in real-time. Brands need to stay on top of this trend in order to interact with today’s buyers. Periscope offers a simple way to do just that.
