06 Jul We’re Halfway through 2016…What’s Next For Social Media?
It may seem hard to believe, but we’re already at the point in the year where 2017 is closer than 2015. And since social media is an ever-evolving medium, it’s time to think about what you’ll be doing online in sixth months’ time so you’re not left behind with 2016 social strategy. Here are a few trends, platforms, and strategies to keep you ahead of the curve.
Coming To You Live…
Despite some speculation about the giant’s popularity amongst younger users, it’s becoming apparent that Facebook is going to remain the king of the social scene for the foreseeable future. And, over the past few years, we’ve seen the engagement driven by video content skyrocket on the platform. But, since social media is a constantly improving medium, what’s the newest video craze? Live Video. Whether it’s streaming live on Facebook, Snapchatting, or using platforms like Periscope that are dedicated to live video content, we can expect to continue to see brands using live video for everything from behind-the-scenes sneak-peeks, to unveiling new products. How can you use live video to help your real estate business? Here are a few ideas:
- Snapchat a walk-through of a new listing or model home
- Set up a Facebook live feed at your next agent luncheon, this is a great way to get people off the fence about stopping by your event
- Periscope a quick interview with your builder or onsite agent about a new project or the progress on a high-profile project
Pay Up
Social Media is, for all intents and purposes, free, if you don’t count the time needed to manage and strategize the use of the platforms. However, as we’re seeing in 2016 and can expect to continue to see in the coming years, just because you can do it for free, doesn’t mean you should. Across all platforms, but most especially Facebook, the adage ‘you get what you pay for’ is becoming more and more prevalent. The good news is that social advertising can be as inexpensive as $1 a day and is both flexible and effective. Expect to devote even a small fraction of your marketing budget to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram ads in 2017, and you may in turn to see your reach, engagement and click-through numbers grow exponentially.
A New Kind of Newsletter
If you’re a broker or agent, this is a great way to reach out and establish a more personal connection with your current and past real estate clients with little time commitment. Rather than the ‘traditional’ email newsletters that take a while to put together just to be skimmed or ignored all together, set up a way for your clients to opt in to your ‘WhatsApp Newsletter’. Then send out articles, news, information, and even helpful hints, just be sure to keep distribution to a few blasts a month and keep it fun and personal. Since this is such a new concept, here are some best practices and strategies you should read through before giving it a shot!
